Designing for Mobiles

During a little bit of back end testing the other week, a thought that came up was how the biking2hiking site would look on a mobile. Rob brought up a good point that with price comparison sites, users like to look at them while shopping to see if it's worth while buying in store or buying online for cheaper and just waiting a few days for delivery. I know that I have done this on a laptop before, although I still brought that in store for £10 more than online as I was impatient and it was only £10. But, the theory is there, if you can compare on line while in store then you have the potential to make sales through the site.

The good news was that having looked at the site through a mobile it looked pretty good. Everything fell into place as it should have and nothing looked awkward. Not having an iPhone meant that I was able to look at how this is viewed properly on a mobile as my brothers iPhone renders the site the same as my laptop and PC.

Not all sites that I have designed are mobile accessible for the simple reason that I can't see people needed to use the sites on a mobile. Price comparison ones are different though, and having never designed for a mobile before I found this surprisingly easy even though admittedly I didn't have viewing the site in mind when designing the site. What I'm going to have to be careful of now is making sure that future sites are mobile compatible.
