Site update - biking2hiking
I've been working a lot recently on improving the biking2hiking website and one of the main parts to have been updated from the early stages of development is the trails part. What we wanted to do with this section was to have an area where users could have a look at trails around their area of residence for either biking or hiking. The database is pretty empty at the moment but it will be filled up over the coming weeks. I also added a 'submit a trail' part so that users can submit a trail that they know about and would like to share and let other people enjoy that particular area of England.
After initially expanding my custom CMS into the trails section of the site, I decided that an easier route would be to just use a CMS that my business partner Rob would be comfortable using, and that is Wolf CMS. The custom one that I have built is fine for what it does on the main site, but with the complexity of the trails section I started to think that maybe this would be something that would be better if it was kept separate from the price comparison administration.
A few other touches have been added to the site such as related products on a product page which is my favourite addition. Quite a few more merchants have been added as well and I've done a fair bit of category mapping so that categories that are the same but with slightly different names are now linked. Some are still separate, but the categories page is looking much better now than it did a week ago. A lot better. It's coming along nicely now so I'm happy with it.
It's now just a case of what else can I do to improve the site.
